Luke 4:43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”
A long-haul truck driver accepted a contract to deliver 300
penguins to a particular zoo. On the way to the destination, his rig broke
down, so he paid another truck driver five hundred dollars to take the penguins
to the zoo. The following day, when he drove his repaired truck into town, he
witnessed the other truck driver walking down the street with the 300 penguins following
in a straight line behind him. Angry, he approached the truck driver and
exclaimed, "I paid you good money to take these penguins to the zoo!"
The driver said, "I did take them to the zoo, but we had money left over,
so now I'm taking them to a restaurant." This guy seriously misunderstood the purpose of his mission.
Many followers and believers in Christ Jesus need help
understanding their mission. Not everyone can go to distant lands on this earth
to spread the good news of the gospel of Christ Jesus. However, an old saying
goes: "Blossom where you are planted." The Holy Spirit will provide
many changes daily for us, as believers in Christ, to tell a lost soul of the
saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
A survey was conducted to determine what the average church
member believed was the church's primary purpose. Sadly, 90% of those surveyed
said the church's primary purpose was to care for its members. Only 10%
believed the church's primary purpose was to spread the gospel's good news.
This scripture shows our Lord Jesus Christ expressing His
passion for spreading the good news of the Kingdom of God beyond His immediate
circle. It emphasizes His understanding of the mission God sent Him to fulfill.
Likewise, as followers of Christ, we are called to deliver the gospel within
our comfort zones and to distant places and unfamiliar people. This divine
mandate calls us to step out of our comfort zones to share the love, hope, and
salvation we've experienced through Christ. It's a beautiful reminder that we
aren't just receivers of the good news but carriers with a mission to share it
with others. There is no barrier too high, no distance too far in proclaiming
the Kingdom of God. We must catch this spirit of dedication and commit
ourselves wholeheartedly to preaching the Kingdom of God, for that is one of
the critical purposes God created us.
When Cortez landed at Vera Cruz in 1519 to begin his
conquest of Mexico with small force of 700 men, he purposely set fire to his
fleet of 11 ships. His men on the shore watched their only means of retreat
sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. With no means of retreat, there
was only one direction to move, forward into the Mexican interior to meet
whatever might come their way. In paying the price for being Christ’s disciple,
we too must purposefully destroy all avenues of retreat. Resolve that whatever
the price for being His follower, we will wholeheartedly pay it.
