1 Kings 3:12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never be anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
Solomon reigned as the King of Israel during the golden era
of peace. He entered an early ministry of wisdom and prosperity following his
father, David, on the throne. Solomon did this by asking God for the wisdom to
lead the Children of Israel. Solomon did not ask for wealth, fame, or power; he
only asked for wisdom to be a godly leader.
God's heart desires to bless all His children with the
actual depth of His Kingdom. His heart desires to bestow upon us true spiritual
wealth, worth more than all the gold and silver in the world. "Buy gold
from Me," Jesus admonishes (Revelation 3:18). How do we purchase all the
gold our hearts desire? By listening to God and taking His words as our own.
That is the core of wisdom, to see things from God's perspective. When we
listen to God, we indeed gain the opportunity to open our spiritual eyes.
Wisdom is more valuable than rubies, much more valuable
than the world's silver and gold. We can have this most valuable gift if we
only ask and listen to God's response. The answer to any prayer or request we
make of God will not come to us in one distinct flash of light; it will come as
a still, small voice when we are deep into his Holy Word, sometimes much like a
whisper. An old pastor who once was well known for his wisdom and insight
received a visit from a young pastor to ask for advice. When the younger pastor
asks the old pastor for advice on going forward in his ministry, the old pastor
gives some valuable advice; however, he spoke in such a small, quiet voice that
the young pastor could not hear him. He asks the wise older man of God to
repeat himself, except when he moves closer to the older pastor, he still
cannot hear what the older pastor says. This exchange occurred several times
until the younger pastor was within a couple of inches of the old pastor and
finally heard this most valuable advice. This method of moving closer to God is
how we receive valuable information and advice from Him while we are in His
Holy Word.
These words are not exclusive to or distinctive to Solomon
and his life and kingdom. They are available to all of us as children of God,
as benefactors to His inheritance. There has never been anyone like us
individually, and there never will be. We can all receive the wisdom we ask of
God. When we respond to His most memorable and valuable invitation to hear His
voice and dine with Him, we will gain the riches of His Kingdom.
