Bible Verse of the Day Thursday February 25th 2021

Romans 8:1-2  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Paul begins this verse of scripture and this chapter with the word “therefore.” This is a continuation of how he ended chapter 7, that through Christ Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin through Satan and that we are free from any condemnation or blame. Satan says to God: “they are evil sinners and should be punished,” God says to Satan: “I know that, but I sent my only begotten Son to die on the cross and pay the penalty for their sins.” Therefore, as followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we cannot be condemned. Some mistakenly believe that through Christ Jesus, their standing with God has improved. This concept is not accurate; our situation has not just been enhanced but has been totally and entirely altered and replaced with “No Condemnation.”

Another essential word in this verse of scripture is “now.” This term indicates a new status that believers and followers of Christ Jesus enjoy now, not somewhere down the road, not after many years of being a Christian. We can do nothing to obtain this “no condemnation” status; it is a free gift from God because of the substitutionary work of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary (Romans 7:6; John 3:16; John 5:24).

The old person we were is dead and gone; we have been buried with Christ and risen to walk in the newness of life. We have received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and direct us into God’s perfect will for our lives. To say this is all good news would be an understatement of a colossal and gargantuan level. No power on this earth comes close to the immense power of the Holy Spirit. As children of God, this means that we have to access more power than is known to all of humanity (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Because of this great power within our hearts and souls, we have an opportunity to follow the directive that was left to us by Christ Jesus on the day He ascended back to His glory in Heaven (Acts 1:8).
