Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday February 24th 2021

2 Peter 3:3-4 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing, and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

God has intervened in the history of this earth in several instances. The Apostle Peter is ardent to remind us that there is coming another time when God will again step into humanity, to bring His plan for creation to a conclusion. God intervened in the history of creation when he caused a great flood that destroyed all people except Noah and his family. God interceded at the Tower of Babel by confusing their dialects when they lived only for themselves and their lustful desires. In the great love, grace, and mercy of God, he intervened in human history when he sent His Son to die on the Cross of Calvary, to atone for the sins of all that place their faith and trust in Him.

Even though His interventions are well documented, not only in the Bible but also in other historical sources, people still scoff and doubt that He is coming back. The Angels that ministered to Him at his ascension told the Apostles that He was coming back (Acts 1:10-11). The Apostles wrote it down in their letters and books that we have for all times. Still, some say, "where is this coming, He promised?"

We cannot be dogmatic as to precisely what incident that Peter was referring to. He could have had the Church's Rapture in his mind; possibly he referred to the seven-year tribulation or the coming of the New Heaven and the New Earth. It is somewhat immaterial what precise period in the end times he was speaking.

The scoffers argue that since the promise of His second coming has not happened yet, that proves that God's Word is inaccurate and cannot be trusted to be the truth. There are over 340 verses in the Old Testament that speak of His second coming, not to mention the massive amount of evidence in the New Testament. This misinformation campaign carried out on Christianity's truth is an assault on the character and integrity of God Himself. Satan, the father of lies, leads the crusade to doubt the truth of God's Word (John 8:44).

Satan knows he does not have a chance to enjoy the eternal bliss that awaits the children of God. Satan will spend eternity in the eternal lake of fire where he and his evil followers will be tormented day and night forever (Revelation 20:10). The good news is that Jesus is coming back and taking all those that have placed their faith and trust in Him to where He is, and we will be with Him for eternity.

Our most important goal in this life is to make sure we reach out to as many people that we can, to broadcast the truth of God's Word. There is an old saying that "misery loves company," which applies to Satan; he wants to drag down with him as many people as possible. Let us all who know Christ Jesus, as our Lord and Savior, spread the truth of God's word far and wide.
