John 12:14-15 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: "Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt."
Palm Sunday
This Sunday is the day that devoted followers and believers
throughout the world celebrate together the Triumphal entry of Christ Jesus
into Jerusalem. This day is most commonly referred to as Palm Sunday because
the people laid down palm branches as Jesus rode into the city on a donkey. The
question is: why did the people turn against Jesus in just a few short days?
During His entry to the town, they were shouting, "Hosanna
to the son of David hosanna to the son of David bless it is he who comes in the
name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest heaven"
There is not one single
incident that occurred in the world's history more important, significant, and
meaningful than the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus.
However, there is a minuscule percentage of people in the world who take the
time to study them world-shattering occurrences.
It most certainly was a
spectacular sight as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, which was a sign of
the humility of our Lord and Savior. However, He was not being welcomed by all
the people there that day. When Pilate asks the people what he should do with
Jesus, they cried: "Crucify Him (Matthew 27:22). The ones in the crowd
that day before Pilate were not necessarily the same people in the crowds at
the entrance of Jesus into the city. The masses' attitude in Jerusalem was
somewhat disappointed because they were expecting a political Messiah that
would free them from their Roman oppression. Jesus did not come to set up a new
worldly Kingdom; he came to save us from our sins, give us a new heart, free us
from the bondage of sin and Satan and provide all that believes in Him eternal
life.
The question we are all
faced with this Palm Sunday is which crowd would be joining. Would be in the
group that welcomed their savior and long-promised Messiah or would be in the
political group that sought after the Romans' expulsion. It is easy to condemn
the ones that rejected Jesus that week but are we ready to lay down the palm
branches of our lives before Jesus. Are we prepared to surrender our entire
being, body, spirit, mind, and soul to Christ Jesus and take on His mission of
spreading the good news of His Gospel to the ends of the earth?
The central message of this resurrection celebration is God still loves us, and because of the subsidiary work of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, we can know eternal life. For one reason, Jesus came to the Cross of Calvary to atone for the sins of the world (John 3:16). During this holiest of seasons, let us all rededicate our lives to giving ourselves to being a good reflector for the light of Christ that shines before this dark and dying world.
