1 Corinthians 10:17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
As Members of the fallen race of
humanity, our memories are limited in scope. Some of us know that better than
others, these lapses in our remembrance can lead to an insensitive, negligent
and inattentive walk in our Christian lives. This lapse in our memory is why we
partake of the Bread and Juice in communion services regularly. We share in this Communion with Christ Jesus
so that we will always remember what He has done for us on the Cross of
Calvary. These regular visits to the Lord's Table help us sustain our hope and
faith in our Walk with Christ Jesus.
The Lord's Supper that we
participate in regularly helps us not become disinterested in our Christian
service to God and others. Communion services allow us to look back on our
lives with Christ Jesus with gratefulness for His sacrifice on the Cross of
Calvary to atone for our sins. It opens the way for all Christians to
contemplate the love, mercy, and Grace of God and what the death, burial, and
resurrection of Christ Jesus means to us personally.
When children of God gather in
the name of Christ Jesus, He is always in their midst (Matthew 18:20). When we come together at His table to celebrate
the sacrament of Communion and reflect on the substitutionary work of our Lord
and Savior Christ Jesus, it gives us a contemplation of the glory of our
eternal life.
The communal devotion and
adoration of followers and believers in Christ Jesus gathered together to
partake of the Bread and Juice represents unity in the Body of Christ.
Communion is evidence of the fellowship we have in each other as Christians and
helps us take the focus off of ourselves, placing it on Christ Jesus. Communion
also helps us stay focused on the true meaning and significance of what
occurred on the Hill of Calvary.
Although the worldwide Body of
Christ Jesus is uncountable, Communion with our Lord and Savior unites us into
one body and one church. Although there are many various denominations of the
Christian Church, for the most part, all followers and believers in Christ
Jesus are together on one critical aspect. That is that Jesus died for our sins
even though we do not deserve the love Jesus showed by going to the Cross to
save us all from an eternity in Hell. Since Jesus is the Bread of life, we all
get the identical benefit from one central source of strength, Christ
Jesus.
