2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
There are days that my computer allows me to soar on eagle's wings; however, there are other days that it mires me deep in the mud like a turtle. On the days I'm soaring on eagle's wings, I'm thankful for my computer, but the days of the turtle while being bogged down, I regret the day I ever sat down at the first computer.
I am sure we all have had times that we dealt with a virus that attacks our computer. The sad part about this entire issue is that these computer viruses come from people that mischievously have nothing better to do. Intelligent, seemingly promising men and women whose lives are in a deep dark valley, who strive to accomplish nothing else save it be bringing agony and grief to others' lives. What causes us to blame ourselves is that we usually allow this virus into our world of computers by clicking on what seemed to us to be a harmless e-mail or other application.
Sin mirrors these computer viruses. Satan's evil and wicked plan completely devastates the lives of Christian brothers and sisters by demoralizing their minds and hearts. The Apostle Paul encouraged the Christians at the Church in Corinth to allow "every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).
In the same manner, in which we allow some virus into our world of computers, we likewise allow Satan to pull our lives down into a dark valley when we subject ourselves thoughtlessly to the atheistic and depraved communication that penetrates our society. We open ourselves up to and scarcely pay attention to the sin we have allowed Satan to corrupt our minds and lives with. The more time we spend in God's Holy Word, the more we become like Him. To accomplish this, we must reject any sinful thoughts that come our way. Attempting to deny any evil thoughts that come our way, on our own, will fail miserably. However, if we fill our minds with God's thoughts, His perspective will dominate our daily walk. This practice is vital in our sanctification process, our spiritual growth. Capitulation to the truth of God's Word annihilates the ramparts of Satan and his evil followers. Spiritual warfare brings human viewpoint into captivity so that the believer in Christ Jesus will desire to follow in His footsteps. The Christian's thoughts must acquiesce to Christ and walk in compliance with God's will, not our own. Being a faithful follower and believer in Christ Jesus is a progression of the renewing of one's mind (Romans 12:2).
If we spend time every day in devotion, studying the Word of God, prayer, and confession of our sins, God will build a barricade, a "firewall" to secure our minds and hearts. Keeping ourselves sensitive to the leading of God's Holy Spirit, we will protect our lives, minds, and hearts to become an inadvertent host for unwelcome sinful viruses.
