1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
Our
expectation, our salvation, and the building block of our faith is the truth of
the Gospel of Christ Jesus. The Gospel will never change; it is the same Gospel
preached by Paul and the other Apostles. The Word of God's truth that the early
witnesses brought to the world is just as solid today in the twenty-first
century as it was in the First Century. There are many obscuring and
contradictory thoughts and teachings concerning the Gospel of Christ Jesus in
the world today. As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we need to return
to God's Word's basic foundational truth. The truth is and always will be;
there is only one way to know that we can be sure that we have eternal life. No
matter how many ways the world tells us that we can enter heaven, faith, and
trust in the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus is the only
way. Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus made that exceptionally clear (John 14:6).
There
is a sometimes difficult reality that we all must deal with; that is, we are
all getting older, and one day these human bodies that we occupy will die.
However, our spirit will leave our bodies and return to God that placed them in
our bodies (Ecclesiastes
12:7). The Gospel of Christ Jesus affirms that Jesus
defeated death when He walked out of that tomb alive. Every aspect in a
Christian's life rises or falls on that of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus's
resurrection. If Jesus' body were to be still decaying in the tomb, then we
would have no hope of eternal life. If one does not believe in the
resurrection, then one has no faith. If there is but a shadow of a doubt in the
human heart that Jesus rose from the dead, then salvation is beyond our reach (Romans 10:9).
Paul
was reminding the Christians at Corinth, and in extension, all followers and
believers in Christ Jesus of the great news of salvation. He also reminded all
whose eyes fall on his writings that the Gospel he preached was the only Gospel
by which we can be saved. Pagan teaching had infiltrated the church at Corinth,
claiming that Christ Jesus's resurrection was a hoax. There is still a strong
pagan influence in our society today that sometimes does creep into our
churches. As Christians, we must be alert to these sneak attacks where Satan
will use someone to bring false teaching into our churches. We should be working extremely hard on
clearing our spiritual hearts from all of the philosophies and matters of the world
that serve to build dividing walls in our churches. All the while tearing down
the walls of good fellowship we enjoy as brothers and sisters in the body of
Christ.
