Psalm 139:13-14 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
We can look around this world and see some mighty, great works of God, the majestic scenes of a mountain range, the beauty of a sunrise, the stillness and serenity of a great forest. There is an old saying, “We should stop and smell the roses,” but so many of us pass by glances of the beauty of God’s creation every day without even a single glance. How often do we pause and listen to the sounds of a mockingbird or the rustling of other wildlife that cross our paths daily? All of this is the creation of God, and so many miss that because of a hurried lifestyle.
As grand and as magnificent as all of that is, that is not the most incredible creation of God; we are. We are all different, in appearances, in desires, in viewpoints, but we are all the same in the fact that we are all creations of God (Isaiah 42:5). God knew from the point of our conception in our mother’s womb who we were and what His plan and will for our lives were. Sometimes we look back through our lives with some regret of a path we chose to follow. However, if we are following the will of God for our lives, every path we walked, every turn we made brought us to where we are today.
God knitted us all together from conception into a complex creature, like a weaver would interlace a beautiful tapestry (Exodus 26:36). Our bodies consist of billions of cells and scores of parts that our creator can only fully explain, contrary to the scientific community that believes they have all the answers to human life. This verse of scripture confirms and reveals to us just how important and unique we are to God. This verse from this beautiful Psalm also reminds us of the incredible power of God, His omnipotence, and His all-knowing, His omniscience. No one knows anyone on their most intimate level except for the God of all creation (Genesis 1:1) and the one that even knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30; Luke 12:7).
This verse of scripture and the idea of how wonderful and unique we are in the sight of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, should cause in us a deep desire to worship and praise Him every minute, every milli-second we are alive, in this life and the life to come. He treats us with the utmost wisdom, power, and love, and our only appropriate and suitable response is to honor and glorify His Holy Name (Psalm 86:8-12).
