Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Before a person comes to Christ Jesus, repenting of their sins, turning their backs on the ways of the world and surrendering their lives to Him, it is natural for them to maintain an earthly outlook. Without Christ Jesus in their lives, one cannot be blamed for pursuing after gold and silver, celebrity, notoriety, worldly pleasures, and all else the world has to offer. From a worldly perspective, what else is life all about, life is short, and one should get all they can get while they have time left. A famous world philosophy states that the one with the most stuff in the end wins.
However, when we decide to follow Jesus, our entire perspective
should shift from a worldly prospect to a Godly perception. When our spiritual
eyes have opened, the ways of this world will begin to fade away, and the
brightness of the light of Christ Jesus will show us a life that previously we
could not even imagine. When this occurs, we will begin to see what is
essential in life and the significance of an eternal outlook instead of seeing
life through the world's eyes. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit will lead us
to see worldly entities for what they are, disruptions, empty promises of
pleasure, and a complete waste of our valuable time.
When we set our minds, hearts, bodies, and souls on heavenly
things, we will realize that is where Christ Jesus is, and we will want to be
there with Him for eternity. The significant part of this is that we do not
have to wait until our life here comes close to having a deep and personal
relationship with our Lord and Savior. We can have that in the here and now; we
can reach out to Him, experience a closeness with Christ Jesus, and He will be
right there to lead our every step. This closeness will not be in some flash of
light that shakes the earth, but a surrounding of our souls and spirits with a
warmness and tenderness that we will never understand, only experienced.
