Bible Verse of the Day Thursday September 9th 2021

Mark 13:1-2 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings! Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

Jesus' closest followers looked on in amazement at the Temple that Herod had built in Jerusalem. Then, one day as Jesus and his followers were leaving the Temple confines, one of them commented as recorded in today's verse of the day. Jesus told them that the day was coming that there would not be one stone left standing. It would be about half a century later when the Romans would destroy the Temple (70 AD). However, it was becoming evident that a change was in the works. The death of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary was a complete fulfillment of the entire Old Testament Laws, which rendered the Temple and the sacrifices made there superfluous (Hebrews 10:1-18).

Paul tells us that we, as the children of God, are the Temple built by God, and He works through the followers of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10-15). Paul talks about one planting and someone else watering but that ultimately God creates the growth (1 Corinthians 3:5-9). The lesson Paul has here for those who plant or who waters is that their work will be tested. The other point Paul clarifies is that the ones doing the planting or watering are merely servants of Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:5).

The cautionary tone of Paul's admonishment is especially relevant in this day in age of Celebrity Christian Leaders. Many follow these renowned ministers until they fall from grace due to some physical desire that leads them away from the path of God. The universal church is complicit in these fallings of celebrity Christian leaders because they were not held to the standard found in the Holy Word of God. Always remember that our leaders are servants of God and need our prayers and support. Pray that God will help them remain humble and faithful in the task that God has laid out for them.
