Ephesians 6:6-7 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly as if you were serving the Lord, not people,
Some may not
realize it, but God has a mission for each one of His children. As believers
and followers in Christ Jesus, we are created by God as an individual. We all
have distinct, unique gifts and talents that have been bestowed on us by our
creator. These personal traits can give us a hint about the direction that God
wants us to travel in for our work for Him and the Ministry of Christ Jesus.
Paul is admonishing us to do the work that God has called us to do with all our hearts, in other words, with a complete surrender to Christ Jesus. We are not to serve to please people but to please Christ Jesus. Some say that they did not get anything out of a worship service they had attended. The question is not how much we got out of the worship service, but how much God got out of the service. Coming to a worship service is a mission for God; he tells us not to give up on meeting together (Hebrews 10:22-25).
When we faithfully carry out whatever mission or job God has for us to do, we are honoring God, and if we do our jobs in the ministry or in the secular world with anything less than total eagerness and passion, we are not in the will of God. Some may see a certain job in the church or in the world as a menial task as compared to other positions, but God does not see it that way. The brother or sister that cleaned up the chapel before the worship service is performing a task that is no less important than the brother or sister that brings God’s message from the pulpit. God does not think on the same level as we do (Isaiah 55:8-9).
The Apostle Paul is reminding all of God’s children that no matter what our station in life is, God is the one that is the definitive and final judge of all that we do. From the most perceived menial labor job to the highest-paid CEO of a large cooperation, we are all called to work for the honor and glory of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. Whether we are working a secular job or working in the ministry, we do all that we do not for the praise of humanity but the honor and glory of God. The dignity of the job we do in the ministry, or the world is dependent on our level of enthusiasm and our degree of surrender to Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Every aspect of the ministry or secular calling that people have been called to is sacred to God. Nothing we do in this life is unimportant, insignificant, or inconsequential when we do it for His honor and glory.
