Peter 2:16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as
a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.
Followers
of Christ Jesus, true born again washed in the blood, saved believers are set
free from the bondage of sin and Satan. Sadly, some Christians use that liberty
as a license to sin. Using our freedom as a cover-up means attempting to make
what we are doing seem like something else to those around us. When spiritual
liberty comes into view, some people want to bend certain Biblical doctrines
into an excuse to sin. The philosophy of Christian liberty is one principle
that many attempts to distort to their advantage (Galatians 5:13; 2 Peter 2:19;
Jude 4).
Being
obedient to the principles and precepts in God's Word frees us from slavery to
ourselves and bondage to Satan. Being free from Satan's clutches is not a
freedom to do what we please, but the freedom to follow God's will for our
lives. Through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus, God liberates the Christian from
Satan's control over our lives.
One
of the most rapid-growing crimes in the world today is Identity theft. This
crime is where someone gains access to your bank card number, driver's license,
or social security number. Maybe some of you might be reaching for your wallets
or purses right now to ensure that your ID cards are still in your possession.
Unfortunately, these forms of identity cannot tell us who we are. Christ Jesus
understands that the ultimate identity theft took place many years ago in the
Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve allowed a much greater enemy to slither into their
lives and steal who they were. It works the same with us today; Satan will
attempt to steal our identity with Christ Jesus and bring us into his camp.
Once we are declared Children of God through the sacrifice of Jesus on the
Cross, we cannot lose our identity with God. Just like when the identity thief steals our identity, it does not change who we are; Satan cannot change the
fact that we are children of God; he can only tempt us to follow in his evil
ways.
To
be completely free we must place ourselves in total servitude of God in and
through Christ Jesus.
