Bible Verse of the Day Tuesday March 22nd, 2022

John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit

Today's verse points out the contrast between our physical and spiritual birth. Flesh spoken of here refer to the physical body or human body. Therefore, only humans can produce other human beings. Physical life makes physical life, and the Spirit makes spiritual life. The only way one can experience a spiritual birth is in and through the work of the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit renovates the nature of all that believe in Christ. Only those that place their faith and trust in the blood sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary will experience the new birth, the spiritual birth.

Our salvation is not just an extension of our human life; it is a complete re-birth. It is an entirely new birth and new life that guarantees that we will know eternal life with Christ Jesus. Spiritual birth that leads to eternal life is not possible through any human method. Our salvation is not conditional on any part of our human life, physical, emotional, or academic. Our spiritual birth has no connection, in any fashion, to our human lives or how we live our physical life. Therefore, it is a necessity that we, with humility, accept that we are spiritually bankrupt and that we possess nothing to offer God for our salvation.

Our spiritual life diverges from our physical life not merely in the biological context but the significance of mortal instead of immortal. God is not mortal, and at the instant of our salvation, we begin to share in His eternal life. Some in this world are confused about when our eternal life begins. Some falsely contend that it starts at our last heartbeat here in this life. However, our eternal life starts with the heartbeat that we accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior (John 3:36). This verse tells us that “whoever believes in the Son has eternal life.” It does not say we will someday have eternal life. It does not say we will have eternal life after we experience physical death; it says whoever believes in the Son of God has eternal life, that is in the present and not in the future (I John 5:12).

It is imaginable that we can refine our lives with religion, but this is only a smokescreen. We could remove all of the rust from an old, broken-down antique water pump fed from an impure water source. However, all the new paint in the world will not purify the bad water coming through the pump. Our spiritual nature, our new life in Christ Jesus, is the only way we can know eternal life.
