Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday March 2nd, 2022

Hebrews 12:15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

This scripture verse is a cautionary forewarning for anyone falling short of God’s grace. If a tiny seed of hostility falls in our path and is left to its own accord, it will grow roots of bitterness. Without God’s love and grace flourishing in our lives, our Christian walk will stagnate. Satan will attempt to make us believe that we have the right to hold on to something we perceive as a wrong carried out against us or someone we love. There is no weight in this life harder to haul than trying to carry a grudge.

Falling short of God’s grace has nothing to do with apostasy or losing one’s salvation. The Greek context of the term “falling short” has to do with missing the mark or not reaching a particular goal in life. The book of Hebrews targeted Jewish Christians reverting back to Jewish laws and traditions for their salvation. In this day and age, it speaks of those who mistakenly believe there is some work we must do to obtain and keep one’s salvation.

The concept of “grace” is that all of our needs will be provided for by God. Unfortunately, Christians sometimes fail to understand the idea of living by the grace of God. God’s grace will never fail; however, Christians can and sometimes do fail to accept the fulness of God’s blessing, thus missing the grace that God has for them.

The second half of this verse results from shunning God’s grace on our lives. Without the grace of God guiding our footsteps, there will be an open door for Satan to disperse seeds of bitterness and resentment in our lives. These seeds will take root in our hearts and souls until anger and resentment become a way of life. Satan will attempt to make us believe that any hard feelings we hold against someone are justified, and we should not let the resentment go. Satan will further try to get us to think that emptying our lives of hard feelings against someone we perceive has wronged us is a weakness. The solution to this issue is to forgive everyone we might hold hard feelings towards before it becomes a way of life. Reliving old grudges will drive them more profoundly in our souls until they have taken a root system of their own. The solution is simple, forgive those we don’t want to forgive, as Christ Jesus has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:31-32).
