Matthew 12:18-21 Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name, the nations will put their hope.”
Although this verse is not a direct quote from Isaiah 42:1-4, it is very close and conveys the same idea. This verse of scripture that Jesus was the Messiah and that Israel would reject Him as their true Messiah. Sin mandates justice and judgment, which happened on the Cross of Calvary. Our Lord and Savior took the judgment that should have been ours on Himself. In His benevolence, Jesus would not break a bruised reed or put out a smoldering wick; He would not trample on the disadvantaged to attain His goals. Instead, Jesus, as the promised Messiah, would bring into the world a victory that before had no one had ever contemplated. This verse of scripture also tells us that the justice that Jesus would bring to the word would be in the form of victory. Furthermore, the idea in this verse of scripture and Isaiah 42:1-4 is that the gentiles would worship Christ Jesus as the Messiah of the World.
Sometimes when we gather together, we will experience a time among our friends when we are more than friends. This fellowship will occur when we gather together in worship because Christ Jesus is meeting there with us. Therefore, during this Holy Week, let us all thank and praise God for sending His one and only Son, not just to minister to us during His incarnation but to meet with us daily.
It is reassuring and uplifting to have a Lord and Savior who does not maintain a distance from His Children but stays very active in our lives. He loves us and desires a close relationship with us. When children are growing up and involved in sports, music, or theatrical events in school, they always look out into the audience to see if their moms or dads are in attendance. We will never have to worry whether or not Jesus is always there with us because He always will be. When we, as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, gather together in praise and worship, we can rest assured that Jesus will always be there with us. The next time we come together as His children, we should thank and praise God that our Lord and Savior will be in our midst; rest assured that it would put any gathering in a beautiful new light. It will bring a tremendous new significance to our worship service.
