Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus did not give His life on
the Cross for us because he had a few high expectations for what we might
become or what extraordinary lives we might lead. He died for us because he
knew precisely who we were and what we would become. Praise God that we now
have the righteousness of Christ Jesus available to us (2 Corinthians 5:17-21).
The only requirement is to surrender our lives to Him and place our faith and
trust for our salvation and our continued sanctification in Him alone. No
amount of work or good deeds can assure us of Eternal life.
Our Lord Jesus died on the
Cross for the ungodly, not those who suppose they are godly. Jesus gave His life
on the Cross because we are all sinners; there is no one righteous (Romans
3:23; 3:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21). There has never been one person willing to die
for sinners except for Christ Jesus. The Father gave, and the Son laid down His
life.
The love of the Father and Son
is articulated copiously in the Cross. Sin cannot deter God's love. God's love
functions regardless of human accomplishment or capability. There are no
exemptions to who is qualified to receive the Love of God; His love reaches out
to all, irrespective of any human efforts, accomplishments, or earthly status.
We love the people in our lives because they love us; however, that is not the
manner of God's love. The love of God is not based on what we have done or how
we do it, God's love for us is unconditional. God demonstrated it by the sacrifice
on the Cross. This sacrifice was the greatest act of love the world has ever
seen, up to that day and every day forward.
John 15:13 Greater love has no
one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
