Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor.
The proverb in today's verse
of the day reminds us that there are many beautiful things in this world that
we can desire. However, if we go on a search for worldly things and trinkets,
we will pass up the more extraordinary things of life. Therefore, God created a
void in our being that we long to fill with Him and his love and grace. Ever
since Adam and Eve tried to hide from God because of their sin, and God sent
them out of the Garden, Humans have had this deep desire to connect with God.
The problem arises when we try to fill this void with material things because
we begin to worry about our worldly things, and they in turn become our god. The
consequence of attempting to fill this void with stuff is that our lives become
more and more empty as time goes on (Matthew 5:6).
We do not have to worry and
fret about what tomorrow might bring because Jesus told us to seek after His
kingdom and righteousness, and these things will be given to us as well
(Matthew 6:33). Jesus does not refer to worldly things that will fade away with
time but the essential and everlasting things. Jesus said that he will give us
life, not referring to the life we live today that is temporary, but eternal
life (John 10:10).
Faith
and trust in the resurrection give stability in life the world cannot and will
not ever comprehend. But sadly, many Christians focus more on temporal matters
and drift away from the essential things in life, which is eternal life with
the one that made life everlasting possible.
There
is a significant lack of spreaders of the Gospel of Christ Jesus in the world
today. Too many want to put on their church-going façade, go to worship
service, and count the minutes until it's over. Yet, God left us here in this
life one heartbeat after accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior for one
reason: to spread the gospel to this lost, dark, and dying world (Acts 1:8).
There
will not be any excuse we can give for ignoring this directive from Jesus at
the Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:13; Revelation 22:12).
