2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
Christians often pray to God
for Him to increase their strength and wisdom but very seldom ask God to
increase their love for others. Paul's message to the Thessalonian Church was
that their love for each other increased. What a testimony for any church in
the First Century or the twenty-first Century. There may very well be a
connection to growing faith and love for each other. The modern-day Christian
Church would be more productive in its missionary efforts if the love between
the members would remain on a steady incline.
The more church members
appreciate and acknowledge the great things that God is doing in and through
our ministry, the more fitting it becomes to praise and thank God. We must
recognize that what God does, He does through His love, grace, power, and
mercy. We cannot impress God with who we are or any great things we do for
others; God is not impressed because we do not have anything that God needs.
God is impressed only with who Jesus is and what Jesus did on the Cross.
Faith exists through two
different avenues: saving faith and dynamic faith; every child of God has the
same saving faith; however, dynamic faith will vary among all Christians. Many
Christians respond to the directives of the Word of God, living out the
principles of the Word. These Christians are the Soul Winners that Jesus spoke
of at His ascension when He left us all with the directive to spread the Gospel
to the ends of the Earth (Acts 1:8).
As our dynamic faith grows,
our love for others will grow correspondingly, and our hearts will burn with
the desire to share the Gospel with the world. Some people have strong faith
but fall short in love with others. Some may love others but have no desire to
share God's Word. God expects all His children to work towards the point of
strong faith and strong love.
