Ephesians 3:17-19 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Paul
wants us to firmly link to one another in love. Comprehending the unfathomable
knowledge of the universe and possessing an excellent understanding of God’s
Word is a lofty goal. However, sharing the love and grace of Christ Jesus will
bring blessings untold to those around us. Although knowledge is a good thing,
love is much greater. Even though power can help those around us, love is more
helpful. Granted, having experience can help teach others great things, but
love allows us to use our knowledge and experience to bless those that come
into our lives.
Christ
Jesus will make His home of communion in our hearts and souls when we surrender
our lives to Him completely. When we allow Jesus to become prevailing in our
everyday lives, our motivation to serve Jesus will take center stage in all we
do. God’s Word is critical for us to grasp the nature of God, expressly His
love. In the Old Testament, Job said that he treasured God’s Word more than the
physical nourishment that kept him breathing (Job
23:12).
God provides for our every
need long before He expects anything in return from us. He furnishes us with
His love, and the only thing He expects in return is that we love others. If we
have a virtuous understanding of God’s love for us, it will have a blissful
influence on the way we conduct our lives. Worldly love expects something in
return for their love; Godly love exists to give to others. Human love stems
from idealism and a commitment to other people, yet that is a great distance
from the love of Christ.
The Love of Christ Jesus is
not dependent on how people love Him; Human love operates on interchange and
tradeoffs. The love of God is a one-way love irrespective of the feelings of
others or anything they might do. Love like this never stops loving when a
rejection comes along. The world system cannot comprehend Christ’s love; it is
a conundrum to worldly people. As followers and believers in Christ, we are to
hold on to God’s Love so that we might be able to share His love with a lost,
dark and dying world.
