Amos 5:14 Seek good, not evil that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
Many dishonest and sinful
groups have maintained they have God on their side. As a result, horrendous
things have happened through the masquerade of a "Christian" crusade.
However, Christ Jesus taught us that we would be able to recognize people by
the fruit they bore. People who seek good and detest evil and exercise justice
and mercy are the only ones that have God going with them. Therefore, we must
ensure that our claim of God Almighty with us encompasses God's character in
our lives.
Satan will attempt to lead us
into a dark avenue and allow self-interest to draw us away from God and into
his evil schemes. Satan will promise us a life filled with fame and fortune.
However, Satan is the epitome of liars; Jesus referred to him as the father of
lies (john 8:44). Satan cannot provide us with anything because he has nothing.
We have heard of famous con people over the years; some have even sold the Brooklyn
Bridge to unsuspecting tourists to New York City.
Numerous places in the Bible
tell us that God is with us, assuring us that He will never leave or forsake us
(Hebrews 13:5). God being with us in the person of Christ Jesus is the primary
theme of the Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.
How do we know whose side God
is on and whose side He is not? That could be an inaccurate question to be
asking. The proper response is not whose side God is on but who is on God's
side. So we might ask ourselves: How do I assure that I am on God's side, and
how do I know my life is rooted in God and that he is the foundation of my
life?
The answer to that question is
in today's Verse: Amos 5:14a Seek good, not evil that you may live. We find
that God gives us life in the Old and New Testaments pages. He is our creator,
our sustainer, and our savior. He is the author and the source of life. God is
the source of our physical life, and our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus is the
author of our eternal life.
To continue a life that
embraces good and shuns evil requires a life surrendered to Christ Jesus,
heart, spirit, soul, mind, and body. As we walk down life's highways, evil will
present itself in pretty packaging; we must embrace the good and shun the
pretty packaging.
