1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Confidence in Prayer is for
those that are children of God and saved by the precious blood of Jesus. Some
trust God for their eternal life but fail to trust Him as far as this life is
concerned. We sometimes have a general faith in Our Lord and Savior but very
little confidence. We can be sure of our confidence if we have an active and
faithful prayer life. In and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, our
right to approach the Throne of God is unconditional. Any freedom and privilege
that we have to come to God’s Throne rests squarely on the substitutionary work
of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary.
In his conflict with the Baal
prophets, God made Himself available to Elijah (1 Kings 18). The Prophets of
Baal wounded themselves with knives so that their God would notice them but to
no avail. Their God was unreachable, and their prayers fell on deaf ears.
However, the one true God heard and responded to the prayers of Elijah.
As Christians today, we have
full, unhindered access to God and His Throne of Grace. We enjoy that freedom
to approach God’s throne because Christ Jesus opened up the path on the Cross
(Hebrews 4:14-16). Unfortunately, unanswered Prayer is typical for too many
people; they dance around the idea of Prayer but do not pray with the assurance
that God will listen and answer their prayers.
Most confusion about Prayer
centers on the nature of Prayer. Too many attempt to use prayer for their good
but give up when the answer to their Prayer is not what they imagined. Their
confidence shatters when they believe that Prayer failed to meet their
expectations. Some make bizarre mandates to God that they think are in their
right to have. Yet, God has promised us that He will provide for all our needs,
not our selfish wants (Philippians 4:19).
Our prayers must coincide with
God’s perfect will for our lives and agree with His plan for the universe.
Jesus stated, “not my will but your will be done.” The more we understand and
accept God’s will for our lives, the more effective our prayer life will
become.
