2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.
Paul sent this second letter to his young protégé Timothy to assure him that his fear was not from God. Timothy and all servants of Christ Jesus need to know that God has not bestowed a spirit of fear on us. We have all dealt with some form of fear at some time. Speaking in front of a crowd brings fear to some, while others are fearful that they might appear foolish while some people are afraid of rejection.
To begin with, dealing with any fear, we must understand and comprehend that fear is not from God. Any fear that we might experience could be a personality flaw, maybe a weakness in our character. On the other hand, when fear appears in our lives, it could be straight from Satan. However, without question, beyond any shadow of a doubt, it is not from God.
When we find ourselves confronted with fear, we must fully understand and believe that it is not coming from God. Furthermore, we must believe that God has given us Love, a sound mind, and the power to place our trust and faith in Him. When we surrender our lives to God, go about our Father's business and represent Him in this fallen world, we have all His sustaining power. There is no place safer in this universe than wrapped tightly in the Arms of God.
As God's children, we have a spirit of Love directly from Him bestowed upon us. This Love explains the power He has given to us. The world sees power as a method of controlling others, but the power from Christ Jesus shows itself in how much we love and serve other people. The evening before Jesus went to the Cross, knowing that he would experience a crucifixion the next day, he humbly washed His disciples' feet.
Paul's letter to Timothy reinforced in young Timothy's mind that boldness was necessary; without boldness from God, we could never accomplish God's purpose for our lives. God's purpose for us is far more critical than how much gold and silver we can amass, experiencing good entertainment, or being affluent or wealthy. The boldness given us by God is so we can spread the good news of His Gospel to the ends of the earth.
