1 Corinthians 1:30-31 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
Christ Jesus is our
righteousness, godliness, and deliverance.
Our righteousness simply means
that we can bow down at the throne of God and be considered free of any guilt
or sin. This does not mean that we are not sinners in God’s sight, what it
means is that Jesus is standing in for us. The sinfulness in us is covered over
by the love and grace of Christ Jesus. So, when God sees us, He see Christ
Jesus in us. Because of the loving sacrifice that Jesus made on the Cross of
Calvary, in God’s eyes we are forgiven of our sins, past present and future. This
is what we sing about constantly, Amazing Grace.
Our source of salvation comes from no other location, only from God and Him alone. Saved believers hold the
same status quo as Jesus in the eyes of God. When we place our faith and trust in
Christ Jesus for our salvation, we stand before God in the perfectness of
Christ. Our salvation is based on who Jesus is and what he did, and in no way
on our weak works. Christ Jesus is our wisdom before God, we cannot begin to
fathom God’s knowledge and wisdom. Consequently, we must accept God’s rational decisions
from His Holy Word, the Bible. This is the reason that we glory in God through
Christ Jesus, rather than ourselves. Jesus shows us, through His perfection, the
great wisdom of God. This eternal wisdom is often in contradiction with the feeble
wisdom of humanity.
This verse speaks of our redemption,
to redeem something means to buy back something that was yours to begin with. Dating
back to the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were both created by God in a perfect
form, in essence they were sinless. When they committed the first sin, they
lost their close walk with God because sin have come into their lives. The problem
was that Humanity did not have anything that God needed, so we could not buy
back our sinless lives. So, God said He would send a savior, a redeemer of lost
souls to regain our ability to stand before God (Genesis 3:15). When Jesus came
into the world that is exactly what He did on the Cross of Calvary, He redeemed
our lost righteousness and paid the penalty for our sin that we should have
paid for. There is only one word that could explain a sacrifice of that
magnitude, love.
John 3:16 For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
