2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
While
there are numerous capable and influential Christians in the world, they are
just vessels for God's message of beauty, trust, and power. Our spotlight ought
never to be on the human messenger. All things considered, what is most
significant is the trustworthiness of the messenger, so their message should
align with the Word of God. God's power is what supports us, not our own; we
are a vessel, a device, in the hands of the Lord.
God
spreads His gospel through weak human beings so that He might exhibit His power
through them. No one can credit the power of the gospel to limited humans.
God's messengers are unappealing in themselves but valuable in their surrender
to God. They are but pottery, but majestic vaults of divine truth. The
significance is in their message, not in their station in life, education, or
giftedness.
We
live in a day where there is an obstinate prominence given to the so-called
Christian Superstars. That allows frail human beings to rob God of His glory of
the treasure of salvation through Christ Jesus. The short-lived grandeur of
human messengers of the gospel will be forgotten in eternity. Instead of a
yearning to be seen as someone of great importance, ministers of the gospel
should recognize themselves as simple implements of the message of God. The
treasure is much more valuable than the clay pot itself. The light is more
significant than the lamp. Disparate attention to the messenger instead of the
message is robbing God of His rightful glory.
Peter
and Paul were great spreaders of the gospel in the first century; that is
meaningful, but the most decisive force in their perspective ministries was the
gospel and its spread to the ends of the earth. They were essential to the
spread of the gospel in the first century. There is a magnitude to those who
bring the message of Jesus to a lost world, but it should never minimize the
message itself.
