Joshua 4:24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.”
The LORD carried the Children
of Israel miraculously across the Jordan River during the flood season. He did
this because of his love, grace, mercy, and promise to His people many years
before. God sent a message to His people; He wanted the Israelites always to
reverence Him.
We all have particular objects
that trigger specific memories in our life of people that have shared special
times with us. I am sure that we all could testify to times that God has
answered our prayers in the past. When young David went out to fight Goliath,
he said: Lord, I remember when you defeated the lion and the bear, and I am
confident that you will help me defeat this Philistine. However, there are
times that we go through a trial leading into some deep dark valley that we
tend to forget what God has done for us in the past. When the Children of
Israel were getting ready to go in and take the land promised them by God,
Moses issued a warning. He told them never to forget what God had done for them
by bringing them out of slavery and leading them to the Promised land. God
wanted the people going into the promised land always to pass the knowledge of
God and His love, grace, and mercy to the younger generations.
Our lives are more significant
than just what and who we are during our time on this earth. There is always a
younger generation coming up that we influence for good or bad. We should
always pass down the great blessings that God has bestowed upon us to the next
generation. If we fail this mission, then the knowledge of God and His love,
grace, and mercy could skip a generation or, even worse, two or more
generations.
We should let our children and
their children know of the valleys we’ve come through with the hand of God
guiding us. If we continue to hold up holy hands, some young minds will ask why
we are doing that. If we praise God in our church services, some young people
will ask: What does that mean? So, we should tell the younger generation about
God before the followers of Satan move in. Let us all leave a record that
states that we loved the Lord. Moreover, He is our everything and the only way
to salvation and eternal life.
