2 Corinthians 4:5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
Our message for the world is not about ourselves; it is about Christ Jesus and His saving power (2 Corinthians 4:7). It does not correlate with any loftier credentials or human ability on our part. It is not dependent on how many followers we have on social media or in the world, for that matter. The ability to present ingenious productions is not how we lead lost souls to Christ Jesus. Paul did not seek any personal recognition when he spread the gospel message to the ends of the earth. He was not concerned with any achievements on his behalf, but with what Christ Jesus has triumphed through his ministry. Paul did not attempt to take advantage of people for his glory or try to build a following of his own.
The foundation and the
building blocks of our ministries is Christ Jesus and what He did for all
people. Therefore, the Christian message is not uninspiring castigation or
reproach. The goal of any ministry is not to gain followers for us but to point
people to the saving power of Christ Jesus. The basis for our message is Jesus
and Him alone. He is the world's light and trying to take Him out of the
picture is simply religion at best. Therefore, all gospel ministers are
servants to Jesus and all in our realm of ministry. A servant gives all of
himself or herself and all that they have to their master; in our case, our
master is Christ Jesus. When we give of ourselves to those we minister to, we
do it out of love for God and those to whom we minister (Isaiah 55:8-9).
There are many
ministers of the Gospel that are in it for some level of personal gain. It
could be gold and silver they seek or some desire to build popularity for
themselves, creating a fan base. This self-seeking would be akin to attempting
to produce fruit in an orchard without the trees. Moral principles without
Christ Jesus are merely tarnished barrenness.
There are times
when the congregation might find it appealing to hear stories about the preacher’s
life. It can be tempting for preachers to focus on some aspect of their lives. Nevertheless,
the preacher cannot get you into heaven, only Jesus can do that. The Cross of Calvary
and the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross is the only way to heaven and eternal
life.
John 14:6 Jesus
answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me.
