1 Peter 2:19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God
When
we think of suffering for some unjust cause, it may send shivers throughout our
bodies. This scenario does not seem reasonable or fitting, and most likely, it
is not. However, we might have some of our brothers or sisters in Christ Jesus
suffering through a tribulation at this very moment and going through some
unjust suffering because of their surrender and commitment to God in Christ
Jesus. Wouldn’t it be great if those untouched by oppression and maltreatment
would pray each day for those suffering unjustly for their commitment to the
gospel of Christ Jesus?
Here
in the United States, we rarely hear of someone being imprisoned, beaten, or
even killed for their faith and belief in Christ and the spread of His Gospel.
However, as you read this, there are possibly thousands of people in countries
we may not have even heard of suffering and dying for Christ Jesus. Yet, as
they face hardship and mistreatment, let us never forget that there are people
who take Jesus’ command to spread the gospel to the ends of the literally (Acts
1:8).
God
is well pleased with all of His children that go through great tribulations for
taking His gospel to the lost souls of this world. God is also well pleased for
everyone who witnesses to those around us without Christ (Matthew 25:21).
God
designs the suffering and tribulations we go through to be a blessing on our
Part. God intends trials to help us grow spiritually because they teach us that
we cannot do it alone; we need the direction and leadership of the Holy Spirit
of God. However, there is one exception to that rule, which is when we suffer
because of some sin in our lives. Still, when Christians confess their sin to
God and ask for forgiveness, God will never turn His back on us (1 John 1:9).
God sometimes turns the suffering into a blessing even though the suffering
continues (Hebrews 12:6).
The
unbeliever will suffer throughout eternity, but the believer will not suffer in
eternity (Revelation 21:4). We must never forget there is no suffering too
great that God cannot either end the suffering or turn it into a blessing.
