Bible Verse of the Day Thursday July 14th, 2022

Proverbs 19:20-21 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end, you will be counted among the wise. Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Christianity is not a brag factor, something used when trying to impress someone. Christianity is a daily walk of life, that is carried out one day at a time. The word Christian, in one respect, means to be Christ-like. Although none of us are ever going to reach that goal in this lifetime, striving for that aspiration is something that a true Christian will be doing every day of their lives.

Every day we, as Christians, should be receiving directions and teachings from God, so that we may learn more about Him and get closer and closer to Him as everyday passes. This is the reason that daily prayer and bible study is so crucial in the life of a believer, to be counted among the wise.

It has been said that “Humans propose, Heaven disposes.” The wise counsel from this verse of scripture reminds us that wisdom comes from submitting to God’s direction and his discipline, as a lifelong pursuit. It would be advisable to allow our plans to ripen a bit more in the light of Christ Jesus before we launch into them. We learn from the wise teachings of James in his letter that God will give us wisdom if we seek it and not doubt (James 1:5).

We all have, deep in our hearts, our own dreams and plans for the future, what we want out of life for us and our children. However, the human heart is full of deceit and cannot be trusted (Jeremiah 17:9), but we can always trust in the counsel of God, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When we accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God gives us a new heart, one that is dedicated to God and His will for our lives, and not the plans of our old heart. It is not important what we might want to do with the life that God has given us, it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

In our pursuit of Wisdom from God, we also should pray for patience, so that we will take the time to listen to and recognize the truth of God’s Word when it comes to us. All this wise counsel is found in but one place, the Holy Word of God, no matter what the world might believe or convey.
