Acts 9:4-5 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied.
Paul is not speaking in the
abstract when His teachings are concerned with the Body of Christ. The church
is the Body of Christ Jesus showing up in the world today. Whatever evil or
persecution happens to the church, it happens to Christ Jesus. Any hurt or
torment that befalls individual Christian befalls our Savior. Jesus is seen in
the world in and through us as his followers and believers. An old saying from
years ago still holds today: "The only way people today are going to see
Jesus is through us as Christians."
Responding to His call is as crucial today as it
was on that road to Damascus when Christ Jesus called Paul to spread the Gospel
to the world. Jesus will not come to us in a blinding light, but He comes to us
just the same, calling us to tell the world of His Saving Grace. God calls us
through clear language from the pages of His Holy Word.
Like Paul, we must respond to
the master's calling in our lives. All followers of Christ Jesus receive a
calling to tell Lost Souls of the only way to salvation. We do not have to
possess worldly power or come from nobility; all required of us is that we hear
His calling and respond.
When Jesus Called the Original
Fishermen to fish for people (Luke 5:1-11), they did not hesitate; they left
their nets and followed Jesus (Matthew 4:20; Mark 1:18). We must respond as His
first followers did, or we will find ourselves stuck in the boat tangled up in
our nets. When we answer God's calling in our lives, we make the most
significant decision we will ever make. The first followers of Jesus made a
life-changing decision when they chose to leave all they knew and surrender
their lives to Jesus and His mission. Please don't put off answering the call
of Christ Jesus because it will change your life for eternity in a manner that
is far above anything our human minds can conceive.
