Bible Verse of the Day Saturday August 6th, 2022

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, means to live your life, in every circumstance, according to the will of Christ Jesus. People will only be able to see Jesus in and through His disciples.

The New Testament does not include a set of rules and regulations for the life of Christians, like the ones that were part of the Jewish tradition when Paul and the other Apostles began teaching salvation by grace through faith to the world. Paul talks about this in Galatians 3-4, using the illustration of the son under immaturity while still under guardianship (the Law). The son who has reached the age of maturity will not need a set of rules to understand the will of his Father. Nevertheless, the New Testament does give us basic Christian principles that will apply to all situations we might face in life.

1 Corinthians 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.

Jesus is the guide by which we should pattern our lives and the norms we use to conduct ourselves. No matter what we do, it should be motivated by our relationship with our Lord and Savior. Every act we perform should be an undertaking of worship. People know us by our names; they stand for who we are. The name of Jesus tells people who He is. Whatever we do in life, we should ensure that it is worthy of the name of Christ Jesus. As children of God, we should use the teachings of the Word of God as a pattern for how we carry out our everyday tasks. The most effective sermon anyone can ever preach is how we conduct ourselves in everyday life. All that we do should be done with a heart of Thanksgiving, thanking the Father for sending His one and only son to live a life that we could never live and die a torturous and horrible death to atone for our sins.

This verse ends with a reminder to always give thanks to God through Christ Jesus. This scripture verse teaches us to focus on the giver instead of the gift. If two people give us a gift and one is far more valuable, our human nature might lead us to value one gift over the other and focus more on the one giver over the other. Authentic biblical Thanksgiving will always give attention to the giver instead of the gift. By doing this, we can enjoy the gift no matter what it is.
