1 Peter 1:8-9 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Jesus said to the Apostle John that his blessing came because he had seen Him in the flesh but blessed are those that have not seen and yet still believe (John 20:29). Some might ask: How can you believe in something you cannot see? Yet, God blesses all human life with believing in things we cannot see, the gravity that keeps us planted on solid ground, and the simple air that keeps us alive, to mention a couple.
There are many pictures and artists' conceptions of what Jesus might have looked like. Some people keep those pictures around because it is easier for them to believe in something they see instead of something they cannot see. We do not need an image of Christ Jesus to believe He did come to earth, live a sinless life, give Himself, and shed his perfect blood to atone for our sins. However, it would be difficult to love someone, to place our eternal future in someone without a clear conception of who they are. Through faith, prayer, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Word of God, we can know who Christ Jesus is and have a close personal relationship with Him (1 John 4:8-9). There is a remarkable power of motivating and commanding people given to some world leaders, but their human presence is necessary. Christ Jesus has motivated and commanded His subjects without a visible body for over two thousand years now.
We would never have fallen in love with our husbands and wives if we had never seen their faces. So likewise, it is incredible that billions of people have fallen in love with our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and never seen His face. However, the foundation of the faith of a follower and believer in Christ Jesus is not based on some hypothetical or speculative knowledge but on the person of Christ Jesus. No one will ever know who Christ Jesus is except through faith, prayer, and an in-depth study of God's Holy Word.
To some that are not faithful followers and believers in Christ Jesus, there is a belief that all that is needed is to have a historical knowledge of the short time He spent on this earth as the Godman. The faithful Christian loves Christ Jesus with all their hearts, souls, minds, bodies, and spirits unconditionally because that is how He loves us, unconditionally. You can always determine how much a person loves Christ Jesus and if it is unconditional or not through how they talk about Him. This verse of scripture ends by telling us we are receiving the result of our faith now, which is the salvation of our souls.
We do not have to wait until we are in heaven to enjoy fellowship with Christ Jesus; we can have that right now. Furthermore, we do not have to wait for an eternity to enjoy our salvation. God's desire is for His children to experience these blessings right now.
