Psalm 27:13-14 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
The words in
this Psalm came through one that, as a young man, had never been in combat but
slew Goliath, the enormous giant taunting the Army of God daily. This
Philistine soldier, that stood over 9 feet tall, was challenging any soldier in
the Israelite army to come out and fight him, but all the soldiers in the Army of
God were horror-struck and frightened. This poetic exquisiteness was composed
by a man that was said to have slain tens of thousands. Yet his advice to all
whose eyes fall upon this precious counsel is to wait on the Lord. When Samuel
rebuked Saul for not waiting on the prophet of the Lord to offer the sacrifice,
Saul told him that his kingdom would fall and that God had sought after one
that He considered to be "a man after his own heart" (1 Samuel
13:8-14).
David’s faith
in God was to him like a redolent fragrance that rejuvenated his exhausted soul
or an oasis in the desert that satisfied the thirst of weary travelers. To
David, his Hope in the one true God was a relieving balm that smoothed his
wearying soul and an energizing and revitalizing faith that were waiting on God
would bring rewards that humanity could never grasp or fathom.
For all
followers and believers in Christ Jesus, the power of that Hope is to hold
tightly to the truth of God’s Holy Word concerning His Promises to us. This
attribute of David made him a man after God’s own heart, someone that placed
his faith and trust in God’s Word. David did not only know beyond a shadow of a
doubt that God would supply all of his needs but held firmly to the notion that
God would deliver him from the hands of all that meant him harm.
All can
possess the same Hope that David had and be a pleasing aroma to God when we
unconditionally and enthusiastically place our faith and trust in God’s Word
that He will provide for our every need and protect us from our enemies.
