Isaiah 12:3-5 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.
"In that day" is the opening line for verses 1 and 4. "In that day" refers to the previous chapter (Chater.11), the earthly reign of the Messiah that will be seen everywhere on earth. It could be pointing to Chapter 10, when Isaiah speaks of the deliverance of the Nation of Israel from the Assyrians. The one singing praise has already received "water" from the "wells of salvation," Because the water is flowing from him, he should be encouraging others around him to place their faith and trust in the Lord and to worship God.
The
Jews in the first century AD, after the return of Christ Jesus to His rightful
place in Heaven, fought very hard against the Gentiles, including the number of
those saved. This verse speaks of His name being made known "among all the
nations," which reveals that the gospel is for all people, not just the
Jews. It has always been one of the primary duties of God's people, then and
now, to encourage others and reassure all that we come into contact with that
God's mercies are not limited to a particular group of people but to all that
come to Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:4).
Jesus
gives a clear directive to all followers and believers in Him to witness to
others the greatness of God and tell all that we come into contact with that
Christ Jesus is the only way to salvation (Acts 4:12). Giving praise to the
Lord is not something that we only do during a worship service when the music
is moving us to honor God and proclaim His goodness; it is something that we do
every heartbeat of our lives. Making what God did for us, is doing and will
continue doing known to the nations means that our lives should stand as an
example to all those around us. This praise is so all may see the world's light
(John 8:12) by reflecting Jesus' light to this lost, dark, and dying world.
When
we proclaim that the name of Christ Jesus is exalted or lifted high, we let the
world know that there is no other name in Heaven or on earth by which we can
know salvation (Acts 4:12). The entire redemption story is founded on,
encompassed on all sides, and it is clear from the Word of God that those that
seek Him will find salvation for the soul and eternal life. What about those
who do not know that yet or have not heard that Jesus is the only way to
salvation? God is telling us, the followers and believers in Christ Jesus, that
our responsibility is to lift His name high. Let all we come into contact with
know what our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus has done for the world through His
sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary.
