Ephesians
6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
We
will face spiritual warfare, and Satan will do his best to hinder our walk with
our Savior. As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we must realize that we
are in a no holds barred daily battle with evil forces. Our confrontation is
with a grueling and supernaturally treacherous antagonist. Unfortunately, far
too many Christians are experiencing a devastating downfall in this war for the
souls of men and women. This unnecessary defeat occurs more often than not
because we try to fight Satan on our own instead of relying on God's storehouse
of weapons and ammunition. Verses 10-13 in this chapter encourage us to put on
God's Armor to be victorious in our spiritual battles. Verses 14-17 lays out
the armor available to all believers; all we have to do is utilize it. Finally,
verses 18-20 let us know the importance, value, and magnitude of a consecrated
and devoted prayer life.
Early
in Ephesians 6, Paul instructs several different groups of people. Then, in the
10th verse, he wraps up his exhortation by appealing to all followers and
believers in Christ Jesus. The Lord's strength and power are the only force
capable of defeating Satan and his evil followers; we cannot be victorious in
any spiritual battle relying on our energy. So, the idea here is to continue on
a path of being strong in the Lord and not depending on our strength; we become
strong only by utilizing God's power through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit.
Any
strength we know comes from God's power, and we must never attempt to go into a
spiritual battle armed with our armor and weapons. Instead, we must always be
vigilant and attentive to our weaknesses. God will supply all the resources we
need for every spiritual battle, but some squander away these most valuable
resources on sensual pleasures and gratifications.
The
foolish ones that hastily run into the battlefield void of God's power and
strength are in for a spiritual downfall. We must never imprudently trust in
our strength and power but always believe in God and His mighty power. Biblical
truth must always be clear in our minds; we can never be full of God's power
until we are empty of our strength.
