Galatians 6:8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the
flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit
will reap eternal life.
Numerous definitions connect with the word flesh; however, this
scripture passage refers to the old sinful nature passed down from our first
parents, Adam, and Eve. God placed Adam over all His creation, the animal,
birds, and fish of the sea. When Adam and Eve fell for Satan's deceit, as he
attempted to discredit God's Word, sin came into the world. From that point
forward, humanity would be born spiritually dead in trespasses and sin. At that
point, the human body would also deteriorate and physically die.
No matter how good they
seem, any works of human flesh become rejected by God. We do not have anything
in and of ourselves that God needs. There is only one way that humanity can
come back into God's good graces: to become part of the new creation, where
Christ Jesus is the head, our creator, our Lord and Savior, and our redeemer.
When we accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior and experience salvation by
grace through faith, any good works must be in and through our new nature that
comes only through Christ Jesus. When we come to Jesus and receive salvation by
His Grace, God does not look upon all our old sinful nature. After our
redemption from the sinful nature, we inherited from Adam and Eve, God rejects
the old person, and we can then bring honor and glory to the name above all
other names, Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:9).
The result of sin in our lives will lead to spiritual deterioration. Furthermore, if we live our lives for all the worldly fame and fortune we can acquire, it will amount to nothing towards our eternal life. The difference between a temporally concentrated life, and an eternal consecrated life is that the former is spiritual thoughtlessness. Some people work in the service of God for the glory they can bring upon themselves. In this scenario, we would be serving humanity, not serving God. Then when the applause dies out, they concede and capitulate. Finally, they choose to move into a spiritual retirement because people do not appreciate what they have been doing.
There are extravagances
and superfluities that we cannot afford to seek after. For example, we must
never attempt to serve Christ Jesus and His ministry if we are out of
fellowship with God. In that case, there might be people that hold us up in
high esteem, but the only thing that is significant and pertinent is what God
thinks of our service. Let us all follow the leading and guiding of
the Holy Spirit so that we might live our lives in humble obedience and
compliance to God and His ways. In doing so, we might propagate to the spirit
for the honor, praise, and glory of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
