Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
What
tangible article do we have that will last for eternity? We can venture to say
absolutely nothing. However, some things will last through eternity. The love
God has for all people has always been and will always be. If we want to
possess something that will outlast time as we know it here on this earth, we
must look towards God and take our eyes off the things of this word. Suppose we
invest in our love for God, our praise to Him, His Holy Word that speaks to us
through the Holy Spirit, His son, our savior Christ Jesus. If we invest in
these things, we will always have a lasting truth, blessings beyond our
imagination, and hope that the world cannot conceive of.
If we truly desire to possess
that which is not just lasting but truly everlasting, we must invest our time,
our lives, and our love in God and His will for our lives. If we want our lives
built on things that will never know degeneration and deterioration, all we must
do is ask Jesus to lead us to the truth, God’s Holy Word. The true value of God’s
Holy Word is not just useful in our earthly lives, but throughout our eternal
lives as well. With that said, there is only one way that we can reap the
harvest, the eternal benefits from God’s Word and that is we read, study, and
meditate on it every day of our lives. The study of God’s Word must not be just
another reading project along with the many books we read. It must be our constant
companion.
There was an old country
gospel song written by Don Reno and Charles Schroeder in 1952 entitled “I’m using
my Bible for a Roadmap.” The advantage of using our Bible for a roadmap is that
the mapped-out journey does not end when we leave this world, but goes with us
through time everlasting.
1 Peter 2:5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
The picture the Apostle Peter is illustrating for us is that Jesus is constructing a spiritual house using living stones (Christians), those that have surrendered themselves to the ultimate living stone, Christ Jesus.
Satan will attempt to cause us to focus on the things of this world by dangling the bait of worldly treasure, like the proverbial carrot on a stick, in our pathway. We will not take anything tangible to our eternal life, so do not allow Satan to veer us off the path laid before us in God’s Word; that is the only path to eternal life.
