Psalms
118:5-6 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he
brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I
will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
As believers and followers in Christ Jesus, we can not only
live with confidence in our salvation and the hope of eternal life, but we can
also enjoy a unique fellowship of prayer with the Lord. The only qualifying
phrase of this beautiful communication with God is that we ask according to His
will, not our will. Our prayer time is not just a time to ask favors of God but
to yield our hearts, minds, souls, and time to Him. When we as Christians reach
the point in our lives that we always yield to the will of God, as Jesus did,
we can have the beautiful blessings of answered prayers.
There is a gospel truth that all people surrendered to
Christ Jesus can enjoy. Any person who knows Jesus as their Lord and Savior can
kneel before the very throne of God. They can then know Him personally and
intimately and enjoy the same confidence that the Apostle John wrote of in his
first letter (1 John 5:14-15). When we reach this point in our walk with Christ
Jesus, God will fill us with the joy of having His Holy Spirit lead, guide, and
direct our every step.
We will also be assured of God’s care for His children just
as our earthly parents’ care for their children. The promise to approach God is
in the name of Jesus and, under His affirmation, is absolute. We must accept
that some answers, whether yes or no, are immediately distinguished; however,
sometimes, we will not know others in this life but in the future. God will
never ignore one prayer we offer and will answer them in His time and His way.
God’s unceasing mercy is evident by His continuous favor to be there for all
that call upon him. The Psalmist could live a life free from all fear of
humankind, knowing that the Lord is always there, on his side, and asking the
question: What can mere humans do to me?
We do not need to fear any suffering or danger because God
is on our side if we pray and keep our faith and trust in Him. King Darius threw Daniel into a den full of
lions and three of his friends into a blazing furnace. They all came out of
danger because they prayed to God and believed that God would never leave or
forsake them.
So, no matter our distress, there’s nothing to fear if we
pray and rely on God. Especially when we face those who persecute us; no matter
how high their power, influence, and status are, they are tiny creatures in
God’s hands. They cannot decide our destiny, and only God is the Master of our
fate. Without God’s permission, we will not lose a single hair on our heads if
we depend on and keep our faith in God. In any distress we find ourselves in,
He will display His authority and power for us and the world to see.
