Psalms 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
It is not something we like to
think about; however, our time here on this earth is short. One day we look
around and realize time has passed us by, there are things we had strived for
that did not come to fruition, and so many deeds we had planned to accomplish
are left undone. Before we realize it, days turn into weeks, and weeks become
months that fade into years. One day we wake up and realize that we can't do
the things we once assumed we might do whenever we wanted. God desires that we
make the most of the opportunities He has given us.
God has given us a limited
amount of time here in this life, so we should always take advantage of the
time God has placed in our lives. God expects us to use the time he has given
us wisely and make every heartbeat count for the Lord. Because of the sin in
our lives, we will all see death one day. Many people live their entire lives
not accepting that there is a final day. This beautiful Psalm that is our verse
of the day does not necessarily only encompass the reality of the truth about
our limited time on this earth, this message from God is about what we do for
Him while He leaves us here. Too many people put off the crucial tasks in life
because they believe there will always be a tomorrow to finish the lingering
job.
Every day that we live is a
gift from God, and as His children, we should always seek the Lord's guidance
as the way to spend each of the valuable days God has given us. Our days should
always include time spent in prayer, carrying our gratitude for our lives to
the giver of that life, bible study, spending valuable time with other brothers
and sisters in Christ, and bringing comfort to those that are sick and in need of
well-being and assistance are examples of work we should be doing for Jesus.
Moreover, believers in Christ
should remember that our earthly death is not the end, but the beginning of our
eternal lives spent with the one that made that possible. We need to take
advantage of God's golden opportunities and do his will instead of our will.
The most vital task any follower of Jesus can accomplish is introducing
others to the gospel of Christ Jesus. For children of God, the last breath we
exhaust here in this life is not an end but a new beginning of eternal life.
There are uncountable numbers of people that do not know of the saving grace of
Christ, and to these people, their mortal death is an end. We have the
excellent news that physical death is not an end but a new beginning, and the
most important thing we can do for Jesus is tell others about what He did for
the world on the Cross of Calvary. The greatest thing one human can do for
another is introduce them to Jesus and his gospel of grace, mercy, and eternal
life.
