Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
The most giant
pizza ever made was at the Norwood Pick 'n Pay Supermarket in Johannesburg,
South Africa. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the pizza was
122.7 feet in diameter and included 1102.31 pounds of flour, 1763.7 pounds of
cheese, and 1984.16 pounds of tomato puree. Imagine a large pizza, and then try
to picture yourself eating the whole pizza. It would most certainly be a major
undertaking. It would simply overwhelm us, but we could do it. We would need to
focus on small bite-size pieces instead of the entire giant pizza.
Many undertakings in life become more manageable when we take
them in small bite-size pieces. If we are building a house and look at that
empty lot, it is hard to picture the finished product. We have to divide the
project into smaller tasks and complete them one at a time, and then the house
will soon become a reality. Maybe we have been asked to direct a church
project, and the mission seems more than you can handle. First, put it in God's
hands and then take it one step at a time until you see the project to
completion.
We could say the same
thing about our prayer life. When we make general, across-the-board requests of
God, we sometimes find that nothing happens. If we break our request down into
small "bite-size" portions, we will start to see positive answers to
our prayers. We should make our requests of God specific and ask for
things that we strongly believe are in God's will. As our Lord and Savior
respond to these more minor needs, we can make grander requisitions with
greater faith.
If we have found ourselves
carrying extensive, universal petitions to God lately with no results, it might
be time to change our tactics. Try asking for something less grand and more particular
and believe that He will answer our prayers. If we have been asking God to get
rid of all the drugs in the world, it might be more effective to request that
the local drug dealers in our community desist in their evil actions. Then, ask
God how he can use us to bring about this world-shaping event.
This opportunity would be
an excellent time to start if we have never made a prayer list. Include small
bite-size requests, and then keep the list going and record the times that God
answers our prayers. We must ask God if we expect Him to bring us particular
answers.
