Josuha 4:23-24 For
the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had
crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to
the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He
did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of
the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear
the Lord your God.
The Lord led the Children of
Israel amazingly through the river Jordan as the flood season occurred because
of his everlasting love, grace, and mercy and to carry out his promises to his
people. He also made a significant statement about himself to all His
followers. His desire was always for Israel to "reverence" him.
Additionally, he wanted the enemies of Israel to cringe and shudder with fear,
which they did; God won a great victory for himself and his people because of
their faith.
All the people of this land,
all the Canaanite nations, to whom, by the miracles wrought on behalf of his
people, he aimed to show his eternal power and Godhead, the superiority of his
protection, and the unavailableness of human power against his omnipotence. In
the sight of the heathens, the miracles he performed for His people were
well-planned messages of salvation by grace through faith, to make these things
known.
God intends that his message
should be maintained and disseminated throughout the earth; therefore, he has
revealed Himself to humanity so that it may spread throughout the world.
Moreover, he strongly requires that parents should be diligent and sincere in teaching
their children the knowledge of his name. This declaration from God is one
great use of the decrees of the bible and the practices of Christianity. They
all point to sacred things and describe themes of infinite importance outside
themselves.
A spirit of inquiry is
familiar to every person, young and old. The human heart is ever panting after
knowledge and, if not rightly directed when young, will, like that of our first
mother, go astray after forbidden fruit.
If our children's happiness is
our priority, we will teach them where they can find happiness. If our wish for
them is wisdom, we should teach them about God using his Holy Word. All
Children will be curious; it comes naturally. What does this baptism represent?
What about Communion, or praying or singing hymns? This time of questioning
from our children, grandchildren, and, in some cases, great-grandchildren. is a
golden opportunity for us to teach the younger generations the ways of the
Christian faith and the beauty and wisdom of God's Holy Word.
