Deuteronomy 4:9 Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
God
encourages His followers, the Israelites and us today as followers of Christ
Jesus, to remember His miracles and great works. He desired his followers of
all time to know that He is the God of miracles. God was aware that when his
early followers would be settled in their new land of “milk and honey” they
would soon forget about the miracles that brought them out of the bondage of slavery
to the freedom of living free from the bondage of servitude to the Egyptians. As
we read in the verse of the day, He wanted His children to not only remember
His great works but to pass it down to the next generation and all generations
to come.
It
is the responsibility of all followers of Christ to help those around us who do
not know of His saving grace. Jesus bought and paid for our freedom from Satan
and sin on the Cross of Calvary. As His washed-in-the-blood followers, we
gather with other followers and believers, sing songs of salvation, and pray
for His Holy Spirit's leading, guiding, and direction. Let us always remember
that there are millions upon millions of people around us, some of whom we
encounter daily, who do not have the great gift of the saving grace of Christ
Jesus. Our lord and Savior directed us to share this unique gift with every
generation.
As
his followers, we need a constant reminder of the great gift of salvation that
is ours only because of the love of God through His son, Christ Jesus. That is
the reason that we gather to worship and praise Him cooperatively. The reason
that God set this form of worship up is so that we might have a way to refuel
our lives to be able to spread His word through the world. I had an
extraordinary friend who is now at home with the Lord, who showed me an
illustration of this that I have never forgotten. He said it was like fighter
jets landing on an Aircraft Carrier; they go out and carry out their mission
but must come back to the Carrier to refuel. As we carry out our mission of
spreading His Word to a lost, dark, and dying world, we must return to the Carrier
(The Local Church) to refuel for our next mission.
There
is no need for anything physical in Heaven; Our relatives here on Earth will
divide all the gold and silver we have accumulated here. The only thing we will
carry when we go home to be with the Lord is the souls we led to Jesus. I wish
I could tell you exactly how that will happen, but we must wait until that
glorious day to find that out.
