Exodus 4:10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.
Someone recently shared a job posting and asked me for my
opinion. My friend was looking for a new position, and they felt this one might
be possible. As I read the posting, it shared all the critical functions of the
job. The person has some significant responsibilities in the role.
Near the end of the posting, a section said,
“Requirements.” These were the necessary qualifications, training, and
experiences that the company wanted the person to have before applying. The
listing company listed some technical details I wasn’t familiar with. So, I
asked, do you have what it takes to do the job?
The company had its expectations. But I needed to speak
with someone at the company to decide about the requirements. I certainly
needed to understand the certifications and other requirements that were
listed. But for someone qualified and interested, they would know if they had
what it takes.
So many times, we set out an expectation of what it takes
to serve God and be a vessel to be used by God and then find excuses for not
doing the job. Moses said he wasn’t eloquent. As we understand it, he had
challenges speaking and gathering his thoughts. He thought God had special
requirements and skills needed to serve Him.
But God is looking at the heart; He wants willing people
who trust Him. God desires those who realize that no matter what weaknesses we
may see in ourselves, God can overcome them and use us to accomplish His will.
So, do you have what it takes? Do you have what it takes to serve God? It
doesn’t take an advanced degree or special training. God is looking for someone
who will trust Him and who is willing. God will take care of the rest.
