2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
There are two characteristic mistakes we make as we
recognize our circumstances. The first is that we handle the current situation
as eternal. We might say to ourselves, "Things will never change." We
elevate our current situation to a god-like significance. We serve the
situation rather than God because we believe it to be a divine force. We
falsely believe that our current situation is controlling us rather than
recognizing that God is always in control.
Our journey in this life is a classic adventure. The things
we experience will have a lasting effect on the remainder of the expedition.
Our present reality is a preparation for what God has in store for us so that
we aren't just progressing through life but progressing along the way.
The second mistake we run into is closely related to the
first one. We find ourselves so engrossed in the first mistake that we miss the
blessings God has in store for us. We miss the beauty God has reserved for us
by hanging on to the present. The eight most dangerous words a child of God can
speak are, "We've always done it that way." Our life's journey is
somewhat akin to God's eternal Kingdom; all who serve Him in this life will
continue to serve Him in the future.
God intends to increase conversion into spiritual maturity
for all his followers and believers. God's purpose for every Christian brother
and sister is to develop into a spiritually mature human. Construction and
destruction work concurrently in the life of every follower and believer in
Christ Jesus. The Christian's earthly life will gradually dissipate, and our
spiritual life will become more robust. Our spiritual lives will become more
abundant by holding on to and claiming the many promises in God's Holy Word.
Temporary toils can plummet the followers and believers in
Christ. However, they will never be able to claim defeat in the life of one of
God's children. Daily walks with Christ and a steady diet of God's Word will
protect the child of God from the many pitfalls, dangers, and hazards Satan has
laid out for us. When we neglect our daily diet of prayer and God's Word, it
will open the door for Satan to cause us to see God's Word from the wrong
perspective. No afflictions that come into the life of a follower and believer
in Christ Jesus means the end of our life's story. Our life here in this world
is only temporary; our real life is yet to come when we have completed our
journey and mission in this life.
