Psalms 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
We can read millions of stories about people who have
overcome hardships and difficulties. Some people have failed at many attempts
to go into business for themselves. They may have tried and failed at a few
companies before they hit on the successful one. Some people have created a new
product that the world has been waiting for. Thomas Edison made over a thousand
unsuccessful attempts before introducing the world to the first lightbulb. The
story is that he was ready to give up after so many attempts. He came home one
night disappointed, and his wife told him that if he thought he could create
light without fire, he had a vacuum in his head. The secret to the success of
the first light bulb was not the compound of the filament but the fact that
there must be a vacuum inside the encasement of the filament.
Many people have overcome some physical adversity to reach
goals in their lives that might seem impossible. Maybe some doctor told them
they would never walk again and find themselves without hope for a normal life,
but who gets to say what normal is? However, by God’s amazing grace, these
people are living their lives and attaining goals they believed they would
never achieve.
Adversity happens in life and can come from nowhere when we
least expect it. Life throws things against us that come out of left field that
might take us by surprise. Life sometimes throws us a curve ball from which we
cannot connect. We all have a common enemy, Satan, and his goal is to place
obstacles in our way as we move down life’s highways. We all need only one
supply of help when our paths become rough and rocky, almighty God. The good
news is that God is always with us in every heartbeat. However, God will not
get in our way when we choose the wrong path. The greater news is that there is
no shortage of God’s amazing grace or goodness when our battles become intense.
Our most significant enemy, Satan, the evil one, will put
anything in our path to cause us to fail and fall short. In those moments, to
make it through, we need help from God to overcome that adversity. There’s no
shortage of God’s goodness in the face of hardship and difficulty. In this
scripture verse, we read that God prepares a table before us in the presence of
our enemies. Irrespective of all that Satan throws against us, God has more
than we will ever need.
